I’ve only just had a small taste of what it is like to be a director of a short film, and I don’t think I’ve done too bad especially being we’re all students and the team has other commitments too; but what is it like to be one of the most succesful animation directors within today’s world?
It was great to look in to the life of someone who I’ve admired so much and understand what he needs to do and how he gets through it. The days are so busy and there are so many teams and other team mates who deal with issues and areas that it would seem that Lasseter gets the time but only gets the time to direct and keep check and tabs on the team. It was clear that I was doing more than a director may be use to doing within a professional setting in terms of animating as well but it was the scale of the team compared to the scale of the animation that I have gotten wrong.
But in terms of being able to both look at Lasseter as a director and his schedule as well as understanding that things don’t always go right and things do need changing and fast. It’s the approach and passion that needs to be taken away from this short and quick inside into the leading man of Pixar.
