Greatest Games Characters. Ever?

According to msnbc.com, this is the Top 50 game characters of all time formed by The Guinness World Records department.
Here’s a nice little fact on the list from the site, “Not surprisingly, Nintendo had the most characters on the list with 11 in the top 50, followed by Sony and Capcom with six and five respectively. Meanwhile, 1996 was a good year for popular characters with five of the top 50 being introduced that year. The years 1987, 2001, and 2007 each brought us four top characters.”

Now I’m not agreeing with all of the list but hey! With this I need to think what made them good characters? What archetypes, styles and form of character are they…
Once I see how others have created characters and who they aim the characters at, I can see as to what works and what doesn’t.

Not surprisingly the number one spot is taken up by the same crazy plumber though…

But what makes these characters so damn good?! Here’s a nice article on what makes Bowser such a great character and the reasons do resonate through various other game characters as they need meet this basic principle…

As well as having great characters, your always going to have ones that just didn’t work out. One’s that kind of ‘lost it’, here’s a list from cracked.com once again! Of the 15 most annoying video game characters (from otherwise great games)…

One group of characters though that seem to always be missed as well as less well-developed are the ladies within the game world.
So it was nice to look up some of the best women of the gaming world within this article. It’s better to see the character be liked and be well-developed for what the character is about rather than the sex, orientation or even what sort of life form it is. But it is always good to use these points in a positive way which will only further the character and make them much more open to connection.
