Svalbard Global Seed Vault – Norwegian island of Spitsbergen

This thing is crazy! I didn’t even know there was such a thing in this world but it seems that there is a place on this planet which holds a ridiculous number of seeds from most of the various species of plants in the world.
On the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen lives the Svalbard Global Seed Vault which, as I said earlier has the capacity to store up to 4.5 millions seed samples. Within each of these samples, they will contain around 500 seeds so thats around 2.25 billion seeds that can be stored in that one vault…
It’s a pretty amazing creation and very smart, the idea is so that it can preserve various species of plants in case of any disasters and the building itself has been built to with-stand ‘any’ disaster. The design is very simple and sleek but also comes across as being quite ‘alien’. It’s purpose is also something that seems quite incredible and insane, you could say it’s like an alien race built it and are taking samples of our planet. It’s a nice reference to use whilst looking at creating a sunken temple with aliens and the idea of a very square and sleek object coming out of a snowy mountain kind of relates to the words and descriptions HP Lovecraft gives in ‘At the mountains of Madness’.
